About Alfonso Martin, Jr.
The Backup Singers Award Show was founded by Alfonso Martin, Jr. Mr. Martin is a visionary with a deep passion for music and a strong belief in the power of backup singers.
Alfonso Martin, Jr has been in the entertainment industry for over 40 years. His experience includes singer, songwriter, actor, model, and creator of the backup singer awards show. He got his start in 1980 as an advertising model for numerous brands, including Belk, Canadian Mist and Coca Cola. He was a finalist in the Budweiser Showdown Competition, and also appeared in the Southwest Music Showcase and The Jazz Room of Studio 183 in Miami, Florida. Alfonso spent many Saturday evenings in the Jess room at Studio 183 where EJ and Company was performing, featuring Monica Crosby, the former backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner. He later had the pleasure of singing backup for Ms. Crosby. He has had speaking roles in commercials for Coca-Cola, and appeared in the 1987 De Laurentiis Entertainment Group film The Bedroom Window.
